How to Help Funding & Giving
West Kerr Community Scholarships hosts one major fund raising event each year in the form of a fun filled gala, with dinner, dancing, and silent and live auctions. We invite you to volunteer to serve on one of our committees for this event.
Citizens and foundations are always invited to contribute in many ways to help. Some Suggestions are:
Endowment – Establish a scholarship in memory of a family member or other. Funds invested through our Endowment program and interest will be used for future scholarships. Each year, Friends & Faculty earns interest on investments and allows the fund to grow.
Will Bequest – We ask you consider the Endowment/Scholarship fund when reviewing your will. There are many ways to make contributions through a will. Your attorney can guide you through your bequest.
Real Property Gifts – Real Estate can be donated to Endowment and can, generally, avoid capital gains taxes. A real estate gift can also provide a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the property.
Life Insurance Gifts – Many people own life insurance policies they no longer need. Friends & Faculty can be designated as both the owner and beneficiary of the policy and a charitable tax deduction, equal to the cash value of the policy, can be realized.
Memorial Gifts – Donors may wish to donate to the Endowment in memory of a loved one or friend. The gift will be acknowledged with a note to the family.
Gifts Honoring Individuals or Groups – Donors may wish to honor individuals or groups with a gift to West Kerr Community Scholarships. This can be done to honor a birthday, holiday, retirement, anniversary or special accomplishment.
Matching Gifts – Donors are urged to check with employers, as well as previous employers following retirement. In many cases, a company will match an employee/retiree charitable gift and this could double or triple the value of the gift.
Other Gifts – We will accept cash and gifts of value that can be used to fund scholarships. Stamp collections, coin collections, stocks & bonds, automobiles, boats, jewelry, and many other items are welcomed by West Kerr Community Scholarships. If the gift is sold, the donor could receive a tax deduction for the value of the item.
Most gifts are tax deductible within current codes of the IRS.
All gifts are appreciated! No gift is too small.
